Accessibility statement

HerSpace Café is committed to being usable and welcoming for the widest possible audience — online and, once we open, in person. We aim to meet the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA.

Our commitment

We design this website to be perceivable, operable, understandable and robust for people using assistive technologies — including screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, magnification and voice control. We hold ourselves to the same standard of welcome in the physical space we're building.

What we've built into this site

  • Semantic HTML landmarks (header, nav, main, footer) and a visible "Skip to main content" link.
  • Decorative images marked with empty alt attributes; every meaningful image has descriptive alternative text.
  • Colour combinations chosen to meet or exceed AA contrast ratios for body text and interactive elements.
  • A clearly visible focus outline on every focusable element.
  • Fluid, responsive layouts that work from 320px wide and up, and reflow cleanly at 200% and 400% zoom.
  • Respect for the prefers-reduced-motion setting — decorative transitions are disabled when requested.
  • Descriptive, unique page titles and meta descriptions on every page.

Our commitment in the café & workspace

As we fit out and open our Cambridge location, we are committed to an accessible physical environment, including:

  • Step-free access and clear, uncluttered circulation routes where the building allows.
  • A menu available in large-print and digital formats on request.
  • Staff trained in accessible customer service under AODA's Customer Service Standard.
  • Welcoming service for guests using mobility devices, service animals or support persons.
  • Quiet zones and adjustable seating options to suit different needs.

Known limitations

Because this website is small and static, we have not identified any known accessibility barriers at the time of writing. If you encounter one, please tell us — we will treat it as a priority fix.

Requesting an accessible format

If you need any information on this site in an alternate format (large print, plain text, or another medium), or you're unable to access something you need, please contact us and we will provide it within a reasonable timeframe at no charge.
